Just above John Clark's entry is the note about Sir John Kennedy of Culzean, Baronet (?-1742). He was the 8th Earl of Cassillis. John and his wife, Lady Jean Douglas Kennedy, had 20 children in 24
years. Sadly, only 6 reached adulthood
and of these 2 died in their twenties.
From some surviving physician’s accounts, it seems likely that there was
consumption (tuberculosis) in the family. Some of the
children could have died in a smallpox epidemic. Unfortunately, we know nothing more on John Clark's death than this one note, that he died on April 11, 1742.
